The union government in an extraordinary gazette notification extended the deadline for Aadhar-Voter ID linking by one year. It may be noted that the earlier deadline was April 1, 2023.

The deadline has been extended by amending the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), number S.O. 2803(E), dated June 17, 2022.

“For the words and figures, “the 1st April, 2023”, the words and figures, “the 31st March, 2024” shall be substituted,” noted the release.

The Law Ministry had earlier clarified Aadhaar-Voter ID linking is voluntary and consent of the elector is required to be obtained to link the same. The issue is pending consideration before the Supreme Court. However, the union government has been pushing authorities concerned to promote the linking.
