6088 new COVID cases reported in 24 hrs; biggest one-day spike in India
New Delhi: A total of 6088 COVID positive cases have been reported in India in a single day, which is the biggest spike recorded in the country so far. The total coronavirus count has touched 1,18,447 with the latest addition. 148 patients died of the disease in one day taking the death toll to 3583.
Over 6000 positive cases are reported within 24 hours in the country for the first time after the first case was detected. Within past five days, 25,000 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 in India. Over 66,000 people are under treatment. Most number of cases are reported in Maharashtra. With the 2345 new cases confirmed on Thursday, the number of patients crosses 40,000 in the state.
However, there is an increase in the number of people who recovered from the disease. According to the latest figures, 40.5 percent people are cured. The country is going through the fourth phase of lockdown as part of COVID resistance activities.
Meanwhile, the global figures of coronavirus cases rose to 5 million. The US is the worst-hit country in the world with over 15.5 lakh positive cases and death toll over 93000.
