Hyderabad: Five Keralites who attended the funeral of another Keralite tested positive for COVID-19 in Telangana. Their samples were tested after the wife of the deceased also turned positive for COVID-19.
They attended the funeral of Kayamkulam native Vijayakumar (64) who passed away on May 17 after having uneasiness. But he was not affected with COVID-19, sources said.
Many people attended Vijayakumar’s funeral here. Following his death, his wife also tested positive for COVID-19. Later, the health officials collected the samples of others who attended the funeral and the results of five Malayalis were positive.
According to reports, all five of them are relatives of the deceased. They were admitted to the hospital after confirming the disease. Among the patients, one is a 66-year-old woman.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limit. In Telangana, COVID-19 cases are not reported in any districts except Hyderabad.
It is reported that when people are heading to Hyderabad from other states, the disease is widely transmitted among migrant workers.
At present, confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 99 in Hyderabad. The disease is spreading widely in Karnataka also. On Thursday, 143 tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka. It is reported that the arrival of people from other states led to the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in Karnataka.
Among the COVID-19 patients, most of them are returned from Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are also facing a challenge as more people started to return from other states.
