Youth League workers clean up Sreerama temple in Wayanad
Sultan Bathery: The flood has affected several religious centres in the state. Ponkuzhi Sreerama Temple, a noted pilgrimage centre here in Wayanad district, was badly affected in the deluge and was filled with dirt and debris when the water receded. On Sunday, it was a group of White Guards of Muslim Youth League who cleaned up the temple and its premises.
The temple and its adjoining shrines were completely under water with only the roofs visible above the water when Ponkuzhi river overflowed on Wednesday. After the water dried up, White Guard team informed the temple authorities that they were willing to clean the temple.
After receiving permission, 30 White Guards members cleaned up the temple and premises in several hours. Logs and dirt dumped in the premises were removed and the temple walls were washed. The compound wall of the temple had been damaged in the waterlogging.
The daily rituals of the temple, which were disrupted due to flooding is back in order now.
The traffic in Kozhikode-Kollegal national highway was disrupted for three days due to flooding. After cleaning the temple, the White Guards cleared the obstacles on the road.
