Young couple turns saviours for woman, newborn baby in Thrissur
Thrissur: A young couple has saved the life of a woman and her newborn child who were in critical condition following delivery at home. Edappara Mathew and his wife Gretel, Vaniyampara natives, are the couple who turned saviours for the mother and child.
Mathew and his wife Gretel were on a morning walk when they heard the scream of a woman from a house close to the road. Without wasting time, both rushed to the house and found the woman delivering the baby. Though the woman’s husband was there, he was found helpless.
The woman was found lying in a pool of blood due to heavy bleeding.
Gretel who is a nurse rushed to help the struggling woman and managed to take out the baby. But even after cutting the umbilical cord, the baby was not responding. Noticing this, Gretel administered first aid to the baby. Within a few seconds, the baby started crying.
Gretel who works as a nurse in many hospitals across India was confident of saving the mother and baby. Her timely act was crucial in saving two lives.
It is learned that the woman was expected to deliver the baby in May. But suddenly, she experienced labour pain and delivered the baby at home. Following the delivery, other neighbours also reached the spot.
The woman and baby were shifted to the district hospital with the help of natives.
