Women turn barren land into lush green farm
Anchal: A group of women in Kudumbasree have converted a barren land into a lush green paddy field. Their paddy field yielded a good harvest in the first cultivation itself.
The women cultivated paddy in the barren land near Anchal pond at Eram in Anchal Panchayat.
The Kudumbasree units namely Bismillah and Poonkavanam had taken the two-acre land for lease and earned one hundred percent of profit.
Though some people had started paddy farming in the land, they stopped it later. This group of women had started paddy cultivation in this land which has been unoccupied for a long time.
Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation Chairman S Jayamohan inaugurated the harvest. These women farmers were honoured at Krishi Bhavan in Anchal on Farmers day.
“We feel satisfied for converting the barren land into a beautiful paddy field rather than earning profit through the cultivation,” said Kudumbasree members.
Karshakasangam State Committee member VS Satheesh, Block Panchayat member PV Prasanth, CPM Branch Secretary N Shaji and Kudumbasree members Nadeera and Nisa addressed the programme.
