Woman power during flood relief; This photographer lady stands out
Presence of a woman photographer during flood relief was widely noted as she was active in the rescue and relief activities from the first day of the floods. Perincherry native Rethi Sunil decided to focus on the women members in the relief camps and inquired about their needs.
As the women in the camps wanted inner wears, Rethi did not hesitate to provide them brand new inner garments she had brought for sale in her small shop for Onam season. Also she arranged to bring more new dress to the camps.
She gave their eight vehicles including 2 cars and 3 bikes for relief operations. Thus eight persons including her husband Sunil could run from camp to camps on the vehicles.
As Rethi can speak Hindi, she joined the NDRF team in their boat to help with the rescue mission. They also distributed food in Pullu area in boats.
Rethi was serving in the camps for eight days during the flood havoc. They distributed the relief materials collected from the government camp in Kuttanelloor and Palakkal Akshaya centre in about 20 camps.
Also she managed to collect materials from their relatives, friends, doctors and others. About 2500 packets of medicine for ring worm also were distributed as the infection was likely in flood-hit areas.
