Harippad: American Consulate has decided to honour a Kerala sub-inspector for finding an American woman who lived in India for two months without passport or visa. As part of the decision, the consulate has invited SI V B Rasheed and his family for the independence day celebration on July 3 at the consulate in Chennai. He will be honoured at this event.
Presently, V B Rasheed is the sub-inspector of Harippad police station.
Junjans (49), an American native woman went missing in November 2018 from Chennai. After abandoning her valuable document in a hotel room in Chennai, Junjans left the room and went under cover. Hotel authorities handed over her passport and visa to American consulate in Chennai and a lookout notice was issued.
V B Rasheed was the sub-inspector in Cochin Tourism then. He shared the details about Junjans to the police officials at the places where she would probably visit. Later, she was found from Fort Kochi beach.
The information was passed on to the American Consulate. On December 30, Junjans was sent back to the States with her relatives who flew down to India after legal proceedings.
Consulate had congratulated Rasheed for finding Junjans who was a drug addict. The decision to honour him at an official event was taken later.
