Unnikuttan returns to his mother after weeks of separation
Kochi: Anitha’s eyes welled up in tears as she handed over Unnikuttan to his mother Sheena. Unnikuttan tried to remove the mask from Sheena’s face in order to identify who it was. He knew it was his mother the moment his little hands touched her face.
Sheena and husband Eldose were undergoing treatment after they tested positive for COVID-19. Their 6- month old son, Elvin aka Unnikuttan, was left with social worker Mary Anitha for more than a month. Eldose, who works as a nurse in Haryana tested positive for the virus from there itself. Sheena tested positive when they returned to Kerala. The baby was asked to be separated from the mother after he tested negative for COVID test.
Anitha decided to take Elvin along with her after none of the relatives of the family came forward for helping the baby. She then decided to shift to flat in the city along with Elvin.
Eldose and Sheena decided to come back for Unnikuttan only after completing their quarantine and testing COVID negative. Sheena said that Anitha's benevolence is what gave protection for her child and that she came in as an angel at a time she did not know what to do when the doctors asked the baby to be separated from her. We will be indebted to Anitha for all our lives, Sheena stated.
Anitha’s eyes teared up as she said goodbye to Unnikuttan after packing his bag with toys, medicine and clothes.
Sheena called Anitha after they returned to their home with Unnikuttan. When she told her that Unnikuttan was crying and asked whether she could video call her, Anitha declined by saying that all his sadness should dissolve in the warmth of his parents’ love.
