Thunchan Memorial Govt college to turn 'hunger free' campus
Tirur: Thunchan Memorial Government college has taken up a new mission called ‘hunger-free campus’ to ensure that no one is left hungry on the campus. From Monday onwards, rice porridge (Kanji) and green gram will be available for free in the college canteen.
Free food is available from 11 am to 2 pm in the canteen. Meals or ‘biriyani’ along with chicken, beef and fish dishes are available at a moderate rate. A box has been placed on the campus to donate for the ‘hunger-free campus’ mission. The teachers and students can contribute to it.
There are 600 students and 40 teachers in the college. Students, teachers and the PTA have been managing the canteen. Principal Dr MS Ajith is the chairman of the canteen committee and assistant professor of the Arabic department Dr KT Jabir is the convenor.
The college has 5 departments and each department has to take up charge of the canteen each month. Separate canteen committee conveners have been selected from each department to coordinate the activities. The teachers and students used to help the 4 canteen workers during their free time.
