Thrissur: At the age of 50 when all his friends started thinking of retired life, Santhosh had other plans in mind. That resulted in him winning the title ‘Marathon man’. Santhosh, who debuted at the Abu Dhabi half marathon in the year 2013, has so far participated in 14 international marathons and 50 half marathons.
He has taken part in the 90 km Comrades marathon in Africa, which is considered one of the toughest marathons in the world, and the Wadi Bih Ultra marathon through the borders of Oman- Dubai.
Thrissur native Santhosh Kumar has worked 30 years in a shipping company abroad. He suffered from chronic knee pain and turned to Yoga as a result. Santhosh, who is 57 years old, has completed the Dubai marathon 4 times. He has also taken part in Muscat (2 times), Abu Dhabi (1), Amsterdam (1), Kochi (1), Delhi (1), Mumbai (3), Ootty (3). He also completed the triathlon held in Dubai,2019. A triathlon consists of 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and a half marathon (21. 095 km). Santhosh was preparing to take part in the Comrades Marathon for the second time. Unfortunately, that is when the pandemic occurred.
Santhosh is the fitness manager in Hyatt Regency in Thrissur. His family includes wife Leena and 2 children.
