This teacher crosses 125 km to meet favourite student who couldn't attend online class
Idukki: In a surprise gesture, Preethi N Kuriakose, a teacher at Kothamangalam Mar Basil Higher Secondary School, took effort to meet her favourite student who was absent in the online classes consecutively. She travelled 125 km to reach the boy’s village in Marayoor.
When she inquired about the student’s background, she realized his problem to attend the classes. Following this, the teacher decided to visit him in person with a solution. Her student was surprised to see the teacher at doorstep.
Preethi is working as a Hindi teacher at Mar Basil HSS.
Though the online classes commenced months ago, the 10th standard student from Marayoor, was not attending them. Noticing this, Preethi teacher started an inquiry on him. During the inquiry, she came to know that he neither has facilities for online classes nor could afford textbooks.
Finally, the teacher from Kothamangalam headed to the boy’s house in Marayoor after purchasing a mobile phone and study tools for him. She handed over the items to the boy with love.
The student is a resident of Pathadipalam in Kanthaloor panchayat. He was continuing his studies staying at an orphanage near Mar Basil School. With Covid pandemic, this came to an end.
“As he was missing the online classes, I contacted on the number given in his documents at the school. But I got a Tamil Nadu native over the phone. So, I vowed to meet him and find the matter behind his absence. I sought help from my old classmate additional SI MM Shameer who works at Marayoor police station. After three-four days, he found the student and family for me,” said Preethi teacher.
When asked about his absence in the classes, he told the police officer that he doesn’t have a smartphone to attend the classes. Though his father purchased a smartphone, they failed to access the internet and the phone was returned to the shop later.
Shameer, the police officer informed this matter to Preethi teacher.
Without wasting any time, the teacher purchased a new smartphone, notebooks, textbooks, school bag, pens, masks and instrument box for the boy. She visited the student along with her family on Friday.
The student promised his teacher that he will bag A plus in all subjects.
