This ‘green-wedding’ makes heads turn with palm leaf decorations, mud glasses
Poochakkal: The stage and the wedding venue were decorated with palm leaves, greens and flowers. Hand fans were given out. This unique wedding was held at Panavalli Nalpatheneeswaram Mahadeava temple here.
Shilpa, daughter of R Suresh-Radhamani couple of Panavalli Sindhooram and Akhil, son of Madhusoodhanan Nair-Thankamani of Arookutti Kalarikkal entered wedlock in a ceremony held under complete green protocol.
Palm leaves, locally available flowers, hand fans and wooden carvings decorated the venue. A five-member green committee of children were constituted to collect plastic covers from the guests.
The plastic covers were collected in a basket made of palm leaves. Single-use plastic, disposable glasses, plates, cups and plastic water bottles were completely avoided at the wedding.
Every material used were environment-friendly. Plastic flexes were avoided. Toffees were not distributed to avoid plastic wrappers.
The bride’s father Suresh is the brother of Harithakeralam Mission Pathanamthitta co-ordinator R Rajesh.
The couple were honoured by the district administration for conducting a green wedding and the honorary citation was handed over by A M Arif MP.
