Taxi driver turns crorepati within hours of buying lottery
Kovalam: A man who purchased lottery ticket on Saturady at about 9.30 in the morning with the Rs 50 he had with him turned a crorepati by 4 ‘o clock in the evening. 33-year-old Chowara native Shaji was in for a huge surprise after he won the Karunya lottery first prize of Rs 1 crore.
The lottery ticket bearing the number KD 841039 won the jackpot and the ticket was bought by Shaji who is a taxi driver. Shaji is a regular lottery buyer and used to purchase tickets along with friends. Shaji used to buy tickets even with borrowed money if the tickets bears the ending digits 9 or 12. Once Shaji had purchased tickets for Rs 3000 along with his friends. From then onwards, he began to test his luck frequently.
Shaji is also one of the singers in the choir group of a church in Cheruvettucaud. Shaji had told his friend Santhosh the other day that if he wins the lottery then he would offer a new music system to the church. After giving money to his mother Usha on that day, the balance Rs 50 was used by Shaji to buy the lottery from Nellimoodu Sreedharan. Shaji came to know about his prize money from one of his relative Manu. SBI Chowara branch manager R S Divya reached Shaji’s house and informed about the happy news. The formalities were completed and the ticket handed over to her.
It was Shaji’s father-in-law Raju who had refurbished the cow dung plastered house to the present state and also bought him a taxi. Shaji intends to take back the pledged gold of his wife Anju from the bank, give a small amount to his sister Shini and buy an auto for his friend Santhosh. He also plans to invest in his 3-year-old son’s name.
