Students of Payyanakkal GVHSS can write exams in breezy comfort
Kozhikode: SSLC examinations are round the corner. That was when the teaching staff and concerned parents of Payyanakkal GVHSS realised something. The ten classrooms needed to accommodate the 160 students, including those with special needs, lacked basic requirements, like benches and desks.
Though the school has got power supply, most classes were without proper connection. Since the examinations would take place in the height of summer, fans were identified as crucial for the students to write the examinations, without suffering the sweltering heat. So, they got together, approached benevolent souls, and sourced various materials.
So, staff and the PTA pooled their resources and raised nearly re. 20,000 in cash, a part of which paid for the rectification of faulty wiring and installation of new switches. With the rest of the amount they bought six fans and paid off the electricians. In a huge gesture the Bengaluru central committee unit of Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre, a frontal organisation of Indian Union Muslim League, sponsored ten fans. These were handed over formally to the school authorities by the local MLA, Dr. M K Muneer. With other benefactors donating six fans, a total of 22 have been fixed in classrooms to beat the summer heat.
Though certain classrooms lack even chairs for teachers, they are content that at least students would now be able to write the examinations in relative comfort. But this lacuna of chairs is also being addressed with a sponsor willing to supply 20 chairs.
Head Master Pramod Kumar, teacher Binumon ‘Vijayothsavam’ convener E Vinod Kumar, PTA president Bishad K, parents Abdul Gafoor and Habeeb P P, and well-wisher Prafullan teamed up with Adv C K Zeenat, corporation councilor from 54th ward to make a success of this laudable initiative.
