Straight from class 9 to US University; Thrissur girl obtains Master's degree at 19
Thrissur: Niranjana is 19 years old and she has already secured higher degrees from foreign universities. However, one should not ask her how much she scored in her class 10 exam, because she moved straight to Mary Baldwin University in the USA as soon as she completed class 9.
She passed the scholastic aptitude test conducte by the university on international level and also cleared the online interview before joining the 4-year graduation course, as the only foreign student.
Niranjana completed the course within 3 years, while most of other students struggle to complete it in 4 years. In the second year of her course, she took a 6-month break and went to China where she studied micro financing from Duke Kunshan University, with a full scholarship.
Later, she joined Duke University in North Carolina for a Master’s degree at the age of 17. She returned after securing her Master’s degree in Analytical and Political Economics. She even worked in Greenpeace organization for a brief period of time.
Niranjana travelled alone for all academic purposes. Her next journey is scheduled for early 2021. Niranjana has already secured admission in Michigan University for Juris Doctorate Degree (Legal studies).
Niranjana Menon is the granddaughter of Wadakkanchery native Jyothirmayi Kumari, former deputy director of education in Thrissur. She is the daughter of M Gopakumar Menon, who works as AGM at ESAF Bank, and Renuka Menon, an advocate. Niranjana studied in Thrissur Harisree school till her 9th standard.
