Scooby recovering slowly after injured leg amputated

The dog’s bone was fractured and the wounds were infested by maggots. The only solution to save the dog was to amputate its leg. Thus assistant veterinary surgeon Dr Snella and team performed a surgery and amputated the dog’s leg safely.

Changanassery (Kottayam): A dog that sustained injuries from an accident is slowly recovering after it was saved by an election candidate and the staff of Changanassery veterinary hospital here. Named Scooby, the dog was severely injured on its left front leg three days ago. NDA candidate S Rajendran found Scooby on the roadside in Kadamanchira area on Monday.

Rajendran informed the veterinary hospital authorities. As directed by Dr Biju, Jayakumar, a trained dog catcher and member of the organisation Friends of Animals, and his team brought the injured dog to the hospital.

The dog’s bone was fractured and the wounds were infested by maggots. The only solution to save the dog was to amputate its leg. Thus assistant veterinary surgeon Dr Snella and team performed a surgery and amputated the dog’s leg safely.

Scooby is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. It needs at least a week’s rest. The hospital staff is taking care of the dog as a pet. It was they who named it Scooby. They feed it at regular intervals. Scooby is accommodated in a cage in the hospital compound.

According to the hospital rules, the dog will be taken back from where it was brought after the treatment is complete. The hospital authorities said that the dogs that lose its limbs will naturally obtain the ability to walk with the remaining legs.
