Robot SI to welcome visitors at police headquarters
Thiruvananthapuram: Scripting history, the Kerala police has introduced a robot at the reception of its headquarters here on Tuesday. The robot named KP-BOT in Sub Inspector rank will receive the visitors in the headquarters at Vazhuthakkad here.
This is India’s first humanoid and the fourth one in the world which is employed in a service. It can guide the visitors to related sections.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the official operation of the robot at 6.30 pm on Tuesday. State Police Chief Loknath Behera and other higher officials attended the function.
Guiding visitors at reception
The robot will provide all the accurate and detailed information on services provided at the headquarters. People can directly ask questions in English to the robot. Apart from this, the people can use the screen displayed on the robot to clear their queries.
“In India, Kerala police tops in technology. Kerala police introduced such a humanoid for the first time in India. It will function as reception desk at the police headquarters,” said ADGP Manoj Abraham while detailing about the robot.
KP-BOT can identify criminals
Apart from being a receptionist, KP-BOT can identify a criminal and block him at the entrance itself. A camera is also installed on the robot.
“We are also observing the scope of using it to control traffic and defuse bombs. At present it speaks in English, but it will be made ready to interact in Malayalam soon,” said ADGP
This robot system has the facility to issue identity cards to the visitors and arrange meeting with officials. Along with this, the robot can file a case according to the complaints.
Robot SI will salute officials
The robot that looks like a woman SI can greet or salute the officials by identifying each one.
The Kerala police also plans to add other modern facilities in this humanoid soon. It is reported that the robot will be made capable to detect explosives in future. When the robot will be equipped with the technology to recognise emotion with facial expression, it can easily assist the complainants.
While addressing the Cocoon cyber conference in Kochi recently, state police chief had declared that the service of a robot will be used in the police department. Following this, Kerala cyber dome in association with a start-up firm Asimov Robotics developed this KP-BOT.
