Road Safety: Policeman’s Kerala trip on cycle covering 14 districts in 14 days
Shajahan, a civil police officer from the Kundara police station, started his bicycle ride across the state on Saturday. His cycle trip will cover 14 districts within 14 days. The trip aims to promote awareness on road safety.
“It’s time to open your eyes for your dear ones who ride vehicles. Warn, demand and request them to follow traffic rules,” said Shajahan to the public in Kundara.
Minister J Mercykutty Amma flagged off Shajahan’s bicycle ride called ‘Jeevanraksha Yatra’.
Shajahan has been travelling to the police station from his house on bicycle since 3 years. He covers 20 kilometres distance between police station and his house. Inspired by this ride, he decided to have a Kerala trip on cycle for a social cause.
His cycle displays boards with messages on road safety. Apart from a mere cycle ride, he aims to conduct awareness classes and interaction with students in his campaign.
“I decided to undertake such a ride after observing large number of traffic rule violations during traffic inspections,” said Shajahan.
This police officer kicked off his ride after taking leave from duty in the background of the alarming rise in road accidents in the state.
“A careless driver will put life of many innocent people in danger. If we are careful, we can avoid road accidents,” said Shajahan.
