Guruvayur: Jumbos in elephant camp which take palm laves and plantain stems all the time can now taste special menu of food for a month. The rejuvenation therapy (Sukha Chikilsa in Malayalam) for the 48 elephants in the camp started on Monday.
The jumbos are fed with chyawanprash, pea, horse gram and other special items during the therapy period. KTDC chairman M. Vijayakumar inaugurated the therapy session by feeding tusker Gopalakrishnan. Tusker Gopikrishnan who is the winner of elephant race also was fed during the ceremony.
About 20 elephants were lined up on the courtyard of the camp for rejuvenation therapy. Guruvayur Devaswom is spending about Rs 11.5 lakh for the therapy.
Devaswom chairman K. B. Mohandas, chief forest conservator Pradeep Kumar, elephant treatment specialists Dr. P. B. Giridas, Dr. T. C. Rajeev, Dr. K. Vivek and others also fed the elephants.
