Raviathumma is finally an Indian; to meet her Sri Lankan parents after 15 years
Kaipamangalam (Thrissur): Raviathumma was living without a nationality for six years. The 50-year-old Sri Lankan woman was finally given Indian citizenship the other day. She has also applied for her Aadhar card. Once she gets her passport, she is planning to visit her parents whom she hasn’t seen in 15 years.
Raviathumma reached Kerala after getting married to Kaipamangalam native Jamaludheen in Qatar in 2002. They settled down in Kerala in 2006 and lived here since then. They have a 17-year-old daughter.
She cancelled her Sri Lankan citizenship when she applied for Indian citizenship in 2014. There was a delay in getting Indian citizenship. She could not see her parents in Sri Lanka during those years. District collector Haritha V Kumar handed Raviathumma her Indian Citizenship Certificate on Tuesday evening.
Raviathumma’s husband Jamaludheen died in 2018. She remarried seven months ago. Raviathumma got married to Jamaludheen while she was staying in Qatar for work.
