Palakkad: Nalleppilly native Parakkal Raghavan and wife Thankamani turned stars in their village with their noble act on the occasion of their granddaughter’s wedding. As the wedding turned an intimate affair amid the pandemic outbreak, Raghavan and his wife decided to donate Rs 3.75 lakh for the wedding to 50 girls in their village.
Setting a model for all at the wedding, the couple handed over a cash cheque of Rs 3.75 lakh to Chittur Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti for the wedding of 50 selected girls.
“We wanted to conduct a grand wedding with many guests. But adhering to the COVID-19 protocol, we decided to have a simple wedding and donate the money for the wedding of 50 girls,” said 81-year-old Raghavan.
On Sunday, Raghavan’s granddaughter Dr Meera, daughter of Adv. Jayakrishnan entered wedlock with Darshan, son of Adv. Kaladharan at Prasannalakshmi auditorium in Palakkad.
Following the wedding ceremony, Raghavan handed over the cheque to Chittur Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti president P Aneesh Kumar and family friend Jijin Kumar.
“We will use the fund for the wedding of girls from poor families. We are planning to raise the fund to meet the expenditure on wedding feast. 50 weddings will be selected and food for 50 people will be arranged by using this amount at each wedding,” said Aneesh.
As per the COVID-19 protocol, only 50 people are allowed to attend a wedding. The Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti will select the girls who deserve the donated fund.
