Prasanna reopens shop after M A Yusuff Ali pays overdue
Kochi: Prasanna (54), who was evicted from her small shop on Marine Drive in Kochi due to non-payment of rent, has reopened her shop after the businessman and Lulu Group Chairman M A Yusuff Ali settled the overdue. Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) exempted about Rs 2.5 lakhs from her Rs 8.5 lakhs overdue. He paid the remaining Rs 6,32,462 and an advance of Rs 2,26,679 for one year.
Prasanna was also given Rs 2 lakh to run the shop. Lulu Group Media Coordinator N B Swaraj handed over the cheque to GCDA Chairman V Saleem who inturn handed over the shop key and permit to Prasanna.
Prasanna was found protesting in front of her shop when she had to vacate it. The shop on Marine Drive was the only source of income for Prasanna's family, which includes her mentally challenged daughter and another daughter who was bedridden after an accident. Yusuff Ali offered to pay as soon as the matter was brought to his attention.
Covid and the Marine Drive Walkway project had put an end to her sales in the shop. Likewise, she could not pay the rent for two years. Later, when it was opened, the GCDA forced her to shut it down.
