Jameela offers pongala

Chakkulathukavu: This year’s pongala festival at Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy temple witnessed religious harmony when a Muslim woman came forward to offer pongala for a Hindu woman. Jameela, a police woman, performed the pongala rituals after a devotee collapsed while taking part in the festival.

When the rituals were under progress, Pushpa, a devotee from Delhi collapsed at the pongala venue. Jameela rushed towards Pushpa with water and administered first aid to her.

Pushpa was weak and unable to perform the rituals.

“Can I help you to complete the rituals?,” Jameela asked Pushpa.

Pushpa was glad to allow the police woman to offer the ritual which was left incomplete after she fell ill.

Jameela removed her shoes and offered the pongala. Devotees and others were curious to watch the woman in police uniform perform the pongala.

With great devotion, she completed the rituals related to the festival. She showered the holy water of ‘Chakkulathamma’, on the ‘payasam’, the offering.

Rajkumar, a police man, also accompanied Jameela to help Pushpa.

“I feel blessed and thank God,” said Jameela.

Pushpa, a native of Konni in Pathanamthitta, is settled in Delhi with her husband Anil and son Shanu.

Jameela, a civil police officer works at Alappuzha women’s police station. Rajkumar is also a civil police officer at Narcotics department.
