Oachira: The No 59 Anganwadi coming under the 13th ward of Changankulangara in Oachira which had bagged the award for being the best hi-tech anganwadi is again in the news for providing best nutritional food items. The anganwadi provides nutritional and healthy food to children.
The menu for each week is being decided by a team headed by the Anganwadi Level Monitoring and Supported Committee (ALMSC). The anganwadi aims to provide protein, vitamin and carbohydrate-rich foods for all children.
Steam cooked food items like Idli, Ela Ada and Kozhukatta and sweet dessert from broken wheat, sweet chundal from cherupayar (green gram) and different types of payasams are being offered at the anganwadi. Organic vegetables that is grown in Anganwadis and also at the children’s homes are prepared for lunch and served along with rice. One day in a week is allotted for vegetable biriyani and fruits for children in the evening is also offered.
As government funds are not sufficient, a sporting committee headed by the block panchayat member S. Krishnakumar and ward member Radhamani Amma are finding ways for additional funds, said worker R. G. Janet and helper Ranju.
There are 34 kids at the Oachira Anganwadi besides 26 teenage girls who are also the beneficiaries. The anganwadi is also equipped with AC, projector, water cooler, pen tab and organic farming among others. The anganwadi was selected as the best hi-tech anganwadi in March 2019.
