Now, get fresh milk at doorstep for Rs 55 per litre in Thrissur
Thrissur: Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, Nedupuzha dairy cooperative society has launched a door to door milk supply service here. Nine autorickshaws are taking fresh milk to the doorsteps of customers for Rs 55 per litre.
Interestingly, Nedupuzha dairy cooperative society former president E Sunil Kumar and incumbent president MV Vasudevan conceived the idea of launching the service after their trip to Kozhinjampara.
While visiting Kozhinjapara, the duo found a dairy farmer who was taking his cows from one house to another for supplying fresh milk to his customers.
Impressed with the farmer’s marketing strategy, Sunil Kumar and Vasudevan decided to try this model milk supply in Nedupuzha.
As an initial step to launch the service, they hired autorickshaws to supply fresh milk collected from farmers and appointed an employee in each vehicle to measure and deliver the milk to customers.
Every day, the autorickshaws take a ride through the residential areas here with an announcement on milk supply.
The milk supply turned a huge success within a short period. At present, 9 autorickshaws are selling 700-litres of milk per day.
Though all homemakers are aware of the time of the service, the announcement is continuing in each autorickshaw.
The farmers are receiving a payment of Rs 45 per litre from the cooperative society. A total of 60 farmers are providing milk for the door to door milk supply. If milk is short for supply, the cooperative society will purchase more from the cow farm here. Unsold milk will be used to make curd and it will made available for customers along with milk.
7 autorickshaws are supplying milk at Aranattukkara, Metro Nagar, Thankamanikayattam, Neupuzha and Panamukku areas every day at 7 am. At the same time, two autorickshaws are covering these areas at 2 pm.
Both customers and farmers are happy with the milk supply. The cooperative society also turned profitable with the new business strategy.
