Thamarassery native Lajwanti returned to boxing ring after a break of 12 years winning a silver medal. She won the medal in state boxing championship held in Thiruvananthapuram on March 13.
Lajwanti had won several state and national-level medals during her school and college days. A silver medallist in junior women category of National Championship in 2008 and was selected to national camp, she quit the field due to injuries and financial problems.
Lajwanti made a grand re-entry at the age of 30 after becoming a mother of three. Currently, she is working as a fitness trainer. Though she did not get any job in sports quota, she hopes to become the first woman boxing coach in the state. She wanted to join National Coaching Academy in Patiala, but she is unable to find the financial source for it.
Lajwanti's husband Arun and 5-month old daughter also accompanied her to the event and watched her win the silver medal. Arun also said that he hopes his wife would become the first woman boxing coach in the state.
