The mother stood strong despite fate stealing the lives of her beloved husband and their only son. Vijayasree, a native of Kollam, has donated the organs of her son Amal (21) who died in an accident.
With this, Amal has become first donor in 2019. He was returning with his father Rajan Pillai (58) who had arrived from abroad. Both of them were killed as the car in which they travelled rammed into a bus at Bharanikkavu.
Rajan died on the spot. He was returning to native place after retiring from the post of Sharja police officer. Amal, who was admitted to KIMS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram with severe head injury later succumbed to injuries. Vijayasree gave consent to donate the organs of her son.
As the brain death of Amal was confirmed, the members of organ donation agency 'Mrithasanjeevani' approached Amal’s relatives. Following this, Vijayasree consented for donation. Amal’s kidney was donated to a patient who was under treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. His another kidney and liver were donated to patients treated at KIMS and cornea was donated to patient at eye hospital at Thiruvananthapuram. Mrithasanjeevani coordinated the organ donation formalities.
