Molly teacher remembers all 14,765 students she taught in last 29 yrs
Kochi: As the different voices of ‘present teacher’ during the attendance, Molly teacher remembers all 14,765 students she taught in the last 29 years. She has noted down every student’s name in her diary from her first batch, class 10 A in 1977 to her last batch of Plus One science stream in 2006.
Molly Jose, who retired from Darul Uloom Higher Secondary School in Ernakulam, and her diary show the beautiful relationship between a teacher and student. She joined Mar Salinas High School, Kottayam in 1977 as an English teacher.
“From then on I started writing down the names of all my children in the diary. The habit continued when I moved to a school in Pullepady the following year. After retiring in 2006, I started reading old diaries again in my spare time. So it was a curiosity to count all the children that I have taught. That's when I realised that I taught 14,765 students, ”said Molly Teacher.
The Malayalam actor and director Vishnu Unnikrishnan is included in her students’ list. Vishnu also has a beautiful story to share.
“When I was the class leader, Molly teacher called me to the staff room and asked me to count all the students who had only a single set of uniform. I told her that I already knew one student and assured her to give the total number of students in a while. When she asked me who the one student was, I replied that it was me. Then, Molly teacher bought me another set of uniform,” he said.
Molly teacher who is a native of Pala Kozhuvanal now lives in Kakkanad with her husband PJ Joseph who retired from Canara bank. Their three children are settled abroad. The students who come to visit her are also surprised to see their names in the diary.
