Meet Kerala techie who cracked civil service examination after quitting a high-paying job
Kochi: K Prasad from Palarivattam in Ernakulam landed in a high paying job imediately after completing his B.Tech at Kozhikode NIT. He was placed with Oracle in Hyderabad through campus placement and worked there from 2016. However, his aspiration to become a civil servant, which bloomed in his fourth year of engineering, always accompanied him. “This is a job that is not deeply connected with public. This is purely a technical job. It’s boring,” this thought haunted him.
While working he tried his first attempt. But he didn’t even manage to clear the preliminary examination. In 2018, he quit his prospectus job. He joined coaching in Thiruvananthapuram. In the second attempt he qualified for interview, but did not secure good rank. He was not taken back by two failed attempts. Instead of coaching classes he devised his own method for studies. It did not go in vain. Prasad in his third attempt cracked civil service with 209th rank.
Interestingly, despite his exposure in engineering field he took political science. “I was curious about learning a new subject like politics which I like,” Prasad said. He expects that he will get IRS in this attempt. But he said that for better prospects he may go for a fourth attempt.
Meanwhile, Prasad’s ancestral home is in Palakkad. However, his parents M Nandakumar, who retired as accounts officer from Asianet Satellite Communications, and Dakshyani Devi, who retired as a teacher from Campion School are living at Palarivattam itself. Prasad’s brother Prathap Krishnan is a bank manager at Union bank, while his sister-in-law Dr.Vineetha works at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic centre.
