Marathon runner Vasuvettan, 72, who can't stop running
Feroke: Age is no bar for Kannancheri Veluthedath Parambu Vasu. He keeps medals in running and walking competitions at the age of 72.
Vasu’s interest in athletics began when he was 33. Now he is a regular face in the masters’ athletics competitions.
While working at BSNL as a mechanic, he won the bronze medal for walking in the national-level department athletics competition. He was 43 then. He competed 9 times at the national level.
Post-retirement, he participated in the masters’ marathon 14 times. In 2016, he secured gold in 5,000-metre walk and run and 800-metre run. He secured a bronze medal in 5,000-metre run in 2015 in Sri Lanka.
He also won laurels in various competitions in Singapore, Brunei, Goa and at Calicut University.
‘Vasuvettan’ practices daily. He has to participate in competitions at Nashik and Goa which are postponed due to Covid-19.
