Thrissur: Sinto, a native of Pudukkad here, has been surprising everyone with his determination. The man who was born with no legs and partial palms has been driving his car for 116 km to reach his office every day.
When he got a job at the local self-government department, an official asked him to name an office close to his house where he wants to work. But Sinto asked him for an option to work in an office which is far from his house.
Sinto himself informed the authority that he is ready to work at the office in Athirappilly which is situated 58 km away from his house at Pudukkad.
Crossing the hills, hairpins, potholes, river and waterfalls, Sinto drives his car to the office daily.
Though he born as differently-abled, Sinto is not ready to give up. With strong determination, he has been taking care of his family including father, mother and sister for the last 10 years. Sinto took responsibility of his family by making his father, who was a coolie worker at a quarry, quit his job.
“I got a job as an overseer in the local self-government department at the age of 31. Along with this, three unforgettable incidents took place in my life. The first one was I purchased a car and started to drive alone. Later, I entered wedlock with Bolgatty native Ancy Catherine. The last incident was I tested COVID positive and recovered,” said Sinto.
Sinto has been driving his car which is modified by adding lever on pedals.
As born with disabilities, Sinto did not go to school till class 5. His mother Jessy who was an Anganwadi worker learned two-wheeler driving to take Sinto to school from Class 6. After Plus Two, Sinto completed diploma in civil engineering and electronics engineering. He completed his studies by staying at hostels.
Sinto purchased a three-wheel scooter with his savings after obtaining the job of a graphic designer at a private firm.
During holidays, he used to take solo rides on his scooter. He took solo trips to Bengaluru, Chennai and across Kerala. The trip to Hampi was the longest of his solo rides.
Interestingly, Sinto ascended Malayattoor and Kanakamala hills without anyone’s help.
