Lockdown or not, 500 pigeons wait for Ganeshan every morning
Kollengode (Palakkad): About 500 pigeons here wait for a man every morning. By 6.30 am, a person arrives with a bag of grains and feeds the flock of birds. This is a regular sight at Kollengode for over four years. Ganeshan (50), a hotel worker at CT Palayam, is the man who feed the pigeons every day.
Though he is making a living from his job in the hotel, he manages to save the money for feeding the birds. Five kilograms of rice is required to feed the birds a day. As the hotels were closed during the lockdown, Ganeshan struggled to find the money for buying grains for pigeons.
As the activists of Prathikarana Vedi in Chittur donated the rice required for one month, the habit continued without break, Ganeshan said. Also a man named Sakkeer Hussain gave him a sack of paddy. Ganeshan is also a former member of the panchayat.
