Jinson’s family rejoice over bagging Arjuna Award
Perambra (Kozhikode): For Jinson Johnson, the news of Arjuna Award, was quite unexpected and surprising. Though he was hopeful of being nominated as he won a gold and a silver at the Asian Games, never did he dream of bagging the award this year itself. No one in his family had a clue of the award declaration on Monday.
Jinson had gone to his house in Kozhikode for a family matter. He happened to know about the news from there. His father Johnson, mother Shailaja and sister Jithara came to know the news from TV channels.
Later, his relatives, neighbours and old coach K. M. Peter started arriving. While all of them were waiting for Jinson, who had gone out on his bike, Mullappally Ramachandran MP too arrived to greet him.
The MP welcomed Jinson, who came on his bike home, by giving sweets and honoring him with a shawl. Jinson shared his joy by gifting an Indian jersey signed by him. MP opined that it was a valuable gift for him.
Coach Peter hugged Jinson to convey his happiness. Peter responded after the award declaration that Jinson is a unique athlete of Kerala. “No other athlete in Kerala has ever won a record victory in 800 m and 1500 m run. We are waiting for an Olympic medal now,” Peter said.
Jinson was planning to go for the Services Meet on September 16. Later, he postponed it to Tuesday. He dedicated his award to his parents.
