Jiju Jacob extends help in building house for Manusha, girl orphaned during floods
Kozhikode: Entrepreneur Jiju Jacob from Ernakulam has offered to extend help in constructing a house for Manusha, the girl who was orphaned during floods after her father collapsed and died at a relief camp here. Jiju reached Kozhikode Collectorate on Thursday and in a written note promised to Collector Sambasiva Rao, to buy land and construct a house for Manusha.
The construction works for the house will begin as soon as land is obtained, he said.
Jiju was accompanied by elder brother and film director Jibu Jacob, friends Jojo Jacob, P G Aneesh. They also visited Manusha, who is lodged at the old age home at Kanniparamaba.
Raju, a native of Mandya in Karnataka was staying with his three young children at Ponparakunnu near Ayyappankavu in Cherooppa. Raju was a street circus performer. His three children – Manusha, Manoj and Sreenivasan were staying with him at a temporary shed made from tarpaulin. Raju’s wife had left the family few years ago.
After their shelter was destroyed in the heavy rains, the family was shifted to the flood relief camp at Manakkad government U.P school. Raju collapsed at the camp and was taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and died.
The children were orphaned following Raju’s demise. The relief camp was closed on Monday but the children had nowhere to go. Understanding their situation public representatives and local residents intervened and found a place for the three children.
Kozhikode tehsildar, Mavoor village officer, district panchayat president Reena Mundengott and Mavoor panchayat president C Muneerath reached an understanding to let the children stay at an old-age home at Kannipparamba here.
After Manusha’s story was posted on social media, a couple from Alappuzha, Jatheesh P and his wife Tara, commented on Facebook that they are willing to adopt her as they have no children though they have been married for 11 years.
To this, Jiju responded that he will gift a house to Manusha, as adoption won’t be possible if the prospective couple don’t own a property whereas Jatheesh is living in a rented house.
