Jagathy meets 108-yr-old Padma awardee; Thrissurites cheer for the legends
Thrissur: On Tuesday, Thrissurites witnessed a historic moment in which two legends were in attendance. Environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka, a 108-year-old woman who won the Padma Award and Mollywood’s versatile star Jagathy Sreekumar were the two dignitaries at the event.
They arrived in Thrissur to receive the VC Padmanabhan Memorial award constituted by Manappuram group in Thrissur.
Thimmakka looked energetic and beautiful in a silk saree. Though she is 108 years old, she is not weak. She just needs assistance while climbing steps. Her adopted son Umesh will hold her hand when she needs help while walking.
Thimmakka, who has earned the sobriquet of 'Vriksha Mathe (mother of trees)' for planting 8,000 trees including over 400 banyan trees, was honoured with Padma Shri in March 2019.
Actor Jagathy Sreekumar who is wheelchair-bound after meeting with a road accident arrived for the function with his son Rajkumar.
After receiving the award, Thimmakka interacted with Jagathy. When she greeted him with folded hands, the actor raised his left hand in response. Later, in a friendly gesture, Jagathy held Thimmakka’s hand and smiled at her. Both smiled at each other for a long time. Thimakka said good bye and see you in Kannada to the actor while leaving the function. Jagathy waved his hands saying good bye to her.
People flowed to the event to take selfie with the actor and the senior environmentalist. Their fans cheered and clapped hands for them at the function.
