Iron box powered by LPG, new innovation by IOC
Thoppumpadi: Until now, the use of LPG was in kitchen mainly. But the new innovation by the Indian Oil Corporation is to use cooking gas to power iron boxes. IOC has distributed the first iron box powered by LPG to an ironing shop, SN Laundry owned by Jyothi Ranjith, in Kochi.
According to the company more clothes can be ironed using this at a reasonable cost. The iron box is specially designed for this.
The fuel from the cylinder is transferred to the iron box using a small and secured pipe. The hotness can be controlled with the regulator fitted in the iron box. The fuel burning inside the iron box cannot be seen from outside.
IOC Deputy General Manager CP Unnikrishnan said that it is eco-friendly and is a low cost device.
The cylinder used for this is of capacity 5kg. These cylinders need not be booked. The cost of the iron box is around Rs 7000 and weighs around 6kg. it is expected that the cost will drop with the product becoming popular. The cost of the cylinder is Rs 300.
It is more useful for ironing shops. These iron boxes will have more heat than those powered with electricity.
