Instead of a grand wedding, couple donate money to General Hospital
Kochi: Youth Congress leader Manu Jacob and Geethu have set an example by donating the money saved for their wedding reception to Ernakulam General Hospital. The couple decided to avoid a luxurious wedding and tie the knot in a simple ceremony. Only close relatives were invited to the wedding.
Rather than hosting a grand feast for thousands of people, they donated the money to the hospital.
Manu Jacob is the grandson of former minister A L Jacob and son of congress leader Lino Jacob and Sheela. When he discussed his plans with his family, they also supported him. Geethu, the bride, is the daughter of Alappattu Varghese and Shajila from Bengaluru.
The newly-wed couple reached General Hospital after the wedding ceremony at Ernakulam St Francis Assisi Cathedral. General Hospital Superintendent Dr A Anitha received the cheque from the couple. They money was donated to develop the facilities in caesarean ward.
Senior congress leader Vayalar Ravi, MP Prof K V Thomas, DCC president TJ Vinod and Mayor Sowmini Jain reached the hospital to witness the noble gesture. The leaders honoured the couple with a garland.
Manu has sent a letter to the people in his circle instead of a wedding invitation. In the letter, he officially announced his wedding and asked prayers and blessings from them.
Manu, secretary of Youth Congress Parliamentary Committee is doing business at Ernakulam. Geethu is a senior analyst in Yahoo at Bengaluru.
