Ibrahim's dream journey from Badiyadka to NASA
Ibrahim Khaleel, a young scientist hailing from Kasaragod has made it all the way to NASA.
Ibrahim, son of Majeed and Zubaida, was born and raised in Kasaragod. He completed his sixth standard in Little Lily English Medium School and then joined Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 CPCRI in Kasaragod. He went to Manipal Institute of Technology for BE in Aeronautical Engineering and secured his post-graduate degree from Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in Italy.
Ibrahim said that the journeys that he made to various countries including Poland, Germany, Europe and the US to attend international conferences during his degree education helped him gain momentum in his life. He became a part of the International Research Group and got acquainted with people from different countries.
“NASA was not a part of my plan, it was just my dream. I have always felt an affinity towards engineering. As a young boy, I would often be found tinkering with electronic devices and was also very curious to understand their mechanism. I have even been electrocuted in the process,” he said.
“After high school, I did not bother appearing for medical entrance because I knew that my love was for engineering. Aeronautical is a very interesting field, and space is just amazing. That is why I concentrated more on that area,” he added.
Journey to NASA
I had developed a software during the time of my PhD. They showed interest to embed that software into NASA’s code. I completed that within two weeks and they were very impressed by it. We held conferences and studies based on this were also submitted.
Ibrahim Khaleel is currently working at NASA Glenn Research Center in Ohio in America.
