Perinthalmanna: A food booth was inaugurated in Preinthalmanna to provide free meal to the poor and homeless. This is the first step towards making the town hunger-free.
From September onwards, the municipality will provide free lunch to poor people and the booth was installed as part of it. The refrigerator inside the booth and other facilities were offered by an NRI who wishes to remain unknown. For one month, a women’s association here will keep food inside the booth. DYFI has also informed of their willingness to bring food.
The booth was inaugurated by municipality chairperson M Muhammad Saleem by receiving food packet from ‘Koode’ members.
The booth has been installed next to the bus waiting shed near jail. Food in excess at office, home or specially prepared for this can be brought and kept at the booth. Hungry persons can take and eat it.
An adjacent shelf also allows to donate clothes (in good condition) and those require it can take from here.
However, CCTV is installed at the booth to nab those who keep unusable clothes and spoiled food.
