Sivagiri: Thiruvananthapuram district collector Dr. K. Vasuki directed that green protocol should be strictly implemented in connection with the 86th Sivagiri pilgrimage.
The decision was taken in a meeting called by the collector to discuss the progress of the arrangements of various departments ahead of the pilgrimage season. The collector directed to implement green protocol in an area of 3 km around Sivagiri Math during the pilgrimage days.
The storage, distribution and use of paper cups, plastic water bottles, thermocol, vessels, aluminium foil, tetra packs, food items in multi-layer package, plastic covers, plastic carry bags, non-biodegradable plastic substances for single use and other similar materials have been banned.
The collector informed that strict action will be taken against those who violate the order. Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham trust president Swami Vishudhananda chaired the meeting in which Swami Ameyananda, V. Joy MLA and Municipal Chairperson Bindu Haridas also attended.
