Fisherman by profession but holds a doctorate in economics
Cherthala: Though KT Jyothish obtained a doctorate degree, he still goes for fishing in Kaithapuzha lake for a living. He earned his PhD in economics from MG University. His research topic was the livelihood of traditional fisherfolk in Alappuzha. He chose the topic as he has almost two-decade-long experience in the same. 37-year-old Jyothish is the son of Kavalungal native PS Thankappan and Vilasini from Aroor Grama Panchayat.
Jyothish completed graduation and post-graduation in Economics from the University of Kerala and later began his research career. As he could not find any other job, Jyothish became a regular fisherman. From a very young age, he used to go fishing with his father. Now he goes for fishing with his brother Joshi.
The thesis was prepared over a period of 9 years under the guidance of RV Jose, Chairman of Good Shepherd College in Nattakom. Even during the research, he went fishing in morning and evening every day. Jyothish also said that both studies and job are equally important for him.
