Finally, this son fulfills father’s cherished dream
Thrissur: The Malayalam movie 1983 starring Nivin Pauly is one of the favourite films of Malayalees. Everyone loved Nivin Pauly’s character of a father who strives hard to achieve his most cherished dream of becoming a cricketer through his son.
There is a father and son who have the same story to share. Like the father in the movie, a Thrissur native AR Sanjay fulfilled his dream when his Son Athul played for Kerala team in the U-14 Inter-state South Zone Cricket Championship. He celebrated the day when his son’s performance led Kerala to win the match.
Sanjay, a physical education teacher at Sreeramakrishna Gurukulam Vidya Mandir in Puranattukkara and his son Athul are the real heroes.
Sanjay’s ambition was to play in Kerala Cricket team. But he was forced to quit due to problems in his life. He was not ready to forget his passion to cricket and finally achieved his dream through his son.
Athul, Sanjay’s son, has proved that his talent taking 12 wickets in two innings of the U-14 Inter-state South Zone Cricket Championship. Like Sanjay, Kerala is proud of the little cricketer after his great achievement.
It is for the first time in the history of U-14 cricket match, a player has taken 12 wickets. In this match, Kerala team beat Goa by an innings and 25 runs.
Athul is a left arm spinner and Sanjay is a right hand leg spinner. Athul is an eighth standard student in Thodupuzha Central Zone Academy. He is attending classes along with cricket practice here.
Sanjay used to take Athul to watch practice sessions in Paluvai Cricket Academy when he was 5. Sanjay realised Athul’s talent in cricket at the academy. K Pramod, Sanjay’s friend and player of Thrissur Sudharma Apex Cricket Club, supported Athul to become a good cricket player.
“I was too crazy to play cricket and used to spend time in the playground without informing my parents. My mother, who was a teacher, wished that I opt her profession. But my passion was cricket and I dreamed to be a popular cricketer in Kerala,” said Sanjay.
Sanjay made an entry into cricket with Pavaratty Cricket Club. He played for Thrissur Kerala Varma College in the university-level cricket championship.
He was a state reserve player in U-19 Central Zone Championship in 1993. He represented Thrissur in U-15 and u-17 cricket championships.
Sanjay and Athul played together for Pavaratty Cricket Club in Thrissur District Cricket League in 2014.
