Thiruvananthapuram: New permit will be issued exclusively for 2000 electric autorickshaws in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode cities, transport minister A. K. Saseendran stated in the assembly on Tuesday. 1000 permits will be issued for CNG (compressed natural gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) autorickshaws as well.
It has been directed that diesel autorickshaws that are more than 15 years old should be transformed to CNG or electric mode. They will be allowed a time limit upto March 31, 2020 to convert.
The minister also said that 25 percent of the vehicle’s actual price will be granted as incentive to purchase e-auto rickshaws. The government is also considering setting up fare metre with billing machines in auto-taxis.
The package to provide financial assistance to KSRTC has been submitted to the government. The financial aid presently being granted by the government has not been stopped. The government is studying the recommendation proposed by the KSRTC to survive the financial crisis.
