Elderly people who lived in hospital for months get new shelter
Ottapalam: Two elderly people who were staying at Taluk hospital having no place to return will be accommodated at a shelter home. Selvan (70) hailing from Mettupalayam of Tamil Nadu and Kunjan (84) from Thrikkadeeri in Ottapalam, will now take shelter at Malappuram Kavungal Navjeevan Charitable Trust.
Trust chairperson Suja Madhavi, General Secretary P Pushpalatha, and other personnel came to the hospital to shift them to the shelter home. Mathrubhumi had reported about the life of Selvan and Kunjan recently.
Selvan, who was working at a private firm in Pattambi, was hospitalized due to age-related ailments. Though cured of his illness, Selvan remained in the hospital for seven months as he had no place to go. Kunjan came to the hospital three months ago. He also continued to live in the hospital due to a similar situation.
The Corporation and other welfare communities were providing help for the duo. The recent news reports about these men caught the attention of the Trust authorities. Councilor P Kalyani gave a letter to the Janamaithri police and completed the remaining procedures.
