Doctor pedals 17 km on hartal day to treat patients
Chelakkara (Thrissur): Dr. Satheesh Parameswaran is of the opinion that since hartal does not connect with diseases and accidents, the doctors also should not support the same. Due to this view, he set out on his bicycle to travel 17 km from his residence at Chelakkara to the hospital at Kavassery on the hartal day.
‘Only common people approach government hospitals for treatment. Their only hope is the doctors like us. When I thought about the patients, I could not stay at home. So, I set out on my cycle,’ Dr. Satheesh said.
The hartal supporters had blocked the doctor’s car on the previous day of hartal when he was returning after duty and had verbally abused him. This also motivated him to set out on his cycle to the hospital on the hartal day.
Dr. Satheesh was in the news earlier after he walked about 15 km to treat the people in Nelliyampathy during the flood havoc. Dr. Satheesh also acts as Wadakkancherry area secretary of IMA (Indian Medical Association). He is a Chendamelam artist and a spiritual orator.
