Deepak stuns all with folk dance themed on hardships faced by transgender people
Kanhangad (Kasaragod): When folk dance candidate decided to show the audience the injustice faced by transgender people in our society, it turned out to be a stunning performance at the 60th State School Youth Festival.
Deepak Surendran, a class 8 student of Malappuram AR Nagar HS School, is participating at state school youth festival for the first time. He has been learning folk dance since class 3 under the training of dance teacher Shaiju who is a transgender. So, Deepak is familiar with the hardships faced by transgender people.
Shaiju is of the opinion that Deepak deserves praise as he gladly agreed to stage the performance based on the problems of transgender community. “Deepak was really excited to try the theme once I told him about it. I tried to give the message that everyone should spread love and not hatred,” Shaiju said.
Deepak participated in high school category folk dance competition and also secured ‘A’ grade. He also practices Bharatanatyam. He plans to compete in Bharatanatyam event also from next year onwards. His parents Surendran and Pushpa have been giving him full support since he was in nursery.
