Dakshayani Amma proves age is no barrier for a bookworm
Nedumangad: She is best friends with the renowned Malayalam writers including MT Vasudevan Nair, M Mukundan and OV Vijayan even though she never knew them personally. But have read them earnestly. This is the story of 72-year-old Dakshayani Amma who has read more than 2500 books in her lifetime.
She has read almost all the books in the nearby libraries. When she crossed the 2000 mark, she was facilitated at the Sannagar Rajan memorial library anniversary the other day.
She advocated her time to reading when she was left alone to live by the death of her husband Raman Mesthiri. According to her friends, she was a bright student who if had an opportunity would have conquered heights. Dakshayani Amma is still sad that her family did not allow her to continue studies after seventh standard.
She says that her life had completely changed through reading. She is more interested in novels even though she has finished with almost all the short stories and novels in Malayalam.
She is the first to reach the library when a new collection arrives. Despite the ailments of old age, she still walks to the library to borrow books.
