COVID: Thrissur Corporation extends help to homeless, provides shelter
Thrissur: While sitting safe at home during the lockdown days declared to fight coronavirus, have you ever thought about the homeless people? How will they live in this difficult time?
In a noble gesture, Thrissur Corporation has set up a shelter at the model Boys School for the homeless people. The initiative is in association with district health department and police.
On Wednesday, more than 10 classrooms were cleaned and arranged for accommodation. 5 vehicles of corporation and two vehicles of police and one of pink police brought the homeless people to the school.
Their details including photo have been kept in register. They will be provided food packets thrice a day. They will be provided bed and pillow. Six will be accommodated in one classroom. Sanitizers and handwash have been arranged. Doctors will arrive daily and conduct check-up. 250 persons can be accommodated in the school, said deputy mayor P Rafi Jose.
If more people are arriving more classrooms will be taken over and if required Model Girls School also, he added.
Most of the homeless people arrived here are males. On Tuesday a survey was conducted by the corporation on streets and details of 210 persons were collected.
