Cops come forward to build new house for homeless cook of station mess
Taliparamba (Kannur): In an act of compassion and care, the police officers of Taliparamba station initiated construction of a new house for the cook in the police station mess. Pattuvam Muriyathodu native Janaki Amma (57) has been working as cook in the police station mess for the past 12 years.
Despite years of hard work, Janaki Amma could not build a house of her own. On knowing her plight, the police officers came forward to give her a safe shelter. The concreting of the first floor of the house was completed on Monday. Many police men participated in the construction works.
Decades ago, Janaki Amma had received a small house in the mercy of Fr. Sukol. However, it decayed as time passed. The police officers themselves demolished the decayed house and built the foundation for the new house.
The plan to build a house for Janaki Amma was suggested when P. K. Sudhakaran was Taliparamba DySP. The present DySP M. Krishnan also decided to take up the mission and the construction progressed in steady pace.
CI M. Anil Kumar and SI Prashobh also contributed generously for building the house. Each phase of the construction progressed under the supervision of K. P. Priyesh, SI Moideen and Senior CPO Ssathyan. The building materials were purchased using the amount collected by the police officers from their salary.
